Job Description

Purpose: The inpatient psychiatrist physician provides leadership for the multidisciplinary team working collaboratively with unit staff in order to manage all treatment decisions regarding patient care including discharge planning. The physician directly supervisors any midlevel providers who work on the unit, coordinates with all consultative medical colleagues and insures effective teamwork occurs on the unit. All activities must be completed while maintaining the highest ethical standards, professional conduct and adhering to all company policies and procedures.

 

Duties:

  1. Cover CSU from Monday at 8 AM through Friday at 5 PM, at a minimum
  2. Provide at a minimum one weekend on call per month and one holiday per year. Weekend call is from 5 PM on Friday until 8 AM on Monday. Holiday coverage is from 5 PM on the day before the holiday until 8 AM the day after the holiday
  3. Respond quickly to all calls from the unit
  4. Collaborate with the Nursing and Clinical Teams to medically and clinically manage the unit addressing the needs of all patients in the least restrictive manner possible
  5. Insure that discharge planning starts at the time of admission
  6. Lead Treatment Team with at minimum the charge nurse and discharge planner on a daily basis using the following work flow whenever possible:
    1. Discharge clients set for release
    2. Resolve all Baker Acts due to expire
    3. Evaluate all admits
    4. Complete follow up assessments
  7. Complete all charting in EMR unless designated as paper only
    1. All charting must be completed by 11:59 PM on the day service is rendered
    2. Review Physician Order Validation daily
    3. Clear Home Page daily
    4. Charting must support medical necessity and support concurrent review process
    5. Participate in all Doc to Doc Concurrent Reviews
    6. Required documentation includes:
      1. Competency Certification
      2. H&P with diagnosis including psychosocial codes
      3. BA 32 Form – paper only
      4. Physician Orders
      5. Charting and signing off on ETO and S&R documents
      6. Inpatient Provider Daily Assessment
      7. Physician Discharge/Transfer Order
      8. Discharge Summary
  8. Testify at court for commitment hearings
  9. Work with Medical Leadership to establish consistent, evidence based practices designed to:
    1. Maintaining average LOS at or below 5 days
    2. Address co-occurring clients with appropriate treatment planning
    3. Limit access to psychotropic medications that can be misused which includes but is not limited to quetiapine, bupropion, trihexyphenidyl and gabapentin
    4. Identify and address individual social determinants such as homelessness, criminal justice issues and financial constraints
    5. Discharge plans

 

 

Job Requirements

  • Graduate Degree in Medicine School Psychiatric medicine concentration.•
  • Graduate of an accredited school of medicine with residency in psychiatric medicine and licensed to practice in the State of Florida.
  • Board Certification required.
  • Florida License required by DOH.
